Obesity in Children, April 11

Debbie Hornor to speak in Tamworth on ‘Obesity in Children’

“Obesity in Children” will be the topic of a talk by Debbie Hornor. Hornor serves as the Senior Manager for Field Technical Assistance for Voices for Healthy Kids, an initiative of the American Heart Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015.

Hornor’s program is the next in the Tamworth Community Nurse Association’s monthly series entitled “Get Healthy Tamworth!” Hornor’s program will address the alarming rise in the number of obese school children across the country and the factors that are responsible for it. She will be pleased to answer questions at the end of her program and hopes to begin the local conversation that can lead to a general awareness of childhood obesity and ways that our community can successfully work to change it.

Hornor’s experience includes income development, public policy, and direct service in roles with the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Smoke-Free NH Alliance, New Hampshire Citizens Alliance, and United Way. She has received the New Hampshire Public Health Association’s prestigious Friend of Public Health Award and been named an Outstanding Woman of New Hampshire for her leadership in tobacco control policy, as well as being awarded the American Heart Association’s Rookie of the Year Award for her success in net revenue campaign growth.
