
Exploring the Gems of Tamworth:
Walk in the Hemenway State Forest to the tree known as the Tamworth Pine, the biggest (1154 foot) single stem pine in New England. The hike with include the lower Bette Steele Loop, about 2 miles traveling through beautiful country, starting across a bridge on the Swift River and up into tall trees.
When:
meet at 1:30 PM, Saturday, 10/20/2018
Where:
at the pull off at the sign for the Big Pines Natural area located 2.9 miles out Route 113A or the Chinook Trail from 4 corners in Tamworth Village.
Difficulty:
moderate — an ability to hike necessary. There is one section on the return loop on a slope above the Swift River where care is needed, but when taken carefully it is fine and we will be there.
Gear:
rugged footwear, water, and snack.
