GO HIKE WITH FRIENDS 02/06/2021

Updated: Feb 11, 2021

Join us Saturday, February 6th, we will snowshoe the River Trail in the Chapman Wildlife Sanctuary in Sandwich. This is a MODERATE hike but does not ascend a mountain and is easier than that. The trail goes along the Cold River in a quiet setting away from the stress of the world. We may continue along the river a short way on the newer East Loop just to lengthen the experience, then climb up through Visny Woods and visit Teacup Lake before returning to our cars.

To get there, from Center Sandwich, bear right on Grove Street, then bear right on the Mount Israel Road. In 3.5 miles the elevated parking lot for the sanctuary is on the left.

Bring snowshoes, a snack, and appropriate layers. Masks mandatory. There are no dogs allowed in the sanctuary in the winter.

POST HIKE:

On Saturday February 6th, ten of us did a hike in the Chapman Wildlife Sanctuary in Sandwich. The parking lot was nearly full when we got there, but the friendly caretaker let some of us park at his house. Then we walked to the River Trail loop, and walked along the Cold River, finally returning to our cars. A good time was had by all.
