Helping to recognize the warning signs and ease the emotional pain of suicide Tamworth Community Nurse Assoc. offers Gatekeeper workshop, March 12, at Cook Memorial Library Many of us in the town of Tamworth have been impacted by the shock and pain of losing friends and family to the tragedy of suicide. Like so many residents, the Tamworth Community Nurse Association has wrestled with questions such as “What warning signs did I miss?” and “What could I have done?” For help with these difficult questions, the TCNA has reached out to our community resources for answers.
As a result, the TCNA will host a workshop for Tamworth residents to help them recognize the risk factors and warning signs for someone who may be at risk for suicide. The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Library. Those attending will gain an understanding of how to connect with that person and how to connect them with resources.
The Connect Gatekeeper Training is a four-hour course that will train individuals in the Connect program, a nationally recognized “best-practice” program to help prevent suicide deaths. Co-sponsored by the Carroll County Coalition of Public Health, the training will be conducted by Elaine deMello, Supervisor of Training and Prevention Services at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) New Hampshire. She will be assisted by Chris Kennedy and Donna Ulitz, both counselors at the Brett School in Tamworth, who completed a Training of Trainers course last summer.
