GO HIKE WITH FRIENDS 01/17/2021

Updated: Feb 8, 2021

Join us Sunday, January 17th, at 12:30PM when we will do the short easy hike up to the top of Page Hill from Page Hill Road. Page Hill was the site of a ski area from around 1929 to 1968. Cheaper than Mount Cranmore and with steeper trails, it was frequented by skiers like Tom Corcoran, an Olympic skier and founder of Waterville Valley Resort.

The hill is wooded now, with very recent selective cutting and clear-cuts. But the good view of Mount Chocorua and environs on top are still the same as before.

Leaving Tamworth village towards Chocorua on 113, bear right on Page Hill Road and travel 0.8 miles. Turn into a small parking lot that is the next right after the big white house where construction is occurring. The parking lot looks like a gravel pit but was constructed by the owner as trail parking.

After Saturday's mixed precipitation and a freezing night, bring both snowshoes and foot traction and we will decide what is needed. Trekking poles are always helpful.

POST HIKE:

On Sunday January 17, six hikers met at the parking lot on Page Hill Road. Their intention was to hike up the half mile trail to the ledges at the top of Page Hill. All wore snowshoes except for one who found one of her snowshoe straps broken. She was fine walking behind the others. On top, Mount Chocorua was mostly obscured by clouds. But a grand time was had by all.
